The Ashanti RegionGhana, Africa
The Children’s Foundation is located in the Behenase area, in the suburb of Abijan Nkwanta near the city of Kumasi, the capital of the Ashanti Region of Ghana, along the Esereso–Kentanase road leading toward Lake Bosomtwe. Kumasi, with a population of over 1.5 million, is a major trade center drawing people from across the country. Its busy markets, farming economy, and ancient mining areas attract constant migration, which has unfortunately increased the number of children living on the streets, vulnerable to poverty, exploitation, and harmful situations—including the growing threat of child labor and trafficking.
In this environment, it is common to encounter children who are homeless, abandoned, or forced to beg; mothers with infants seeking alms; and youth struggling without safe shelter or the ability to attend school. Many sleep in unfinished buildings or makeshift sheds. These realities make the placement of the foundation near Kumasi both purposeful and necessary, ensuring access to the city’s resources—healthcare, education, transportation, and community networks—while providing a safe haven for the most at‑risk children.
Mary, Mother of God Children’s Foundation exists to lift children out of these dangers and give them a future rooted not only in safety and nourishment, but in skill formation, dignity, faith, and purpose. In a socioeconomic climate where traditional Western measures of success do not always align with local realities, the foundation focuses on building practical skillsets—agriculture, trades, arts, entrepreneurship, and community leadership—so that children can grow into self‑sufficient, confident contributors to Ghanaian society.
Inspired by the Catholic faith and the example of Jesus Christ, “who came not to be served but to serve” (Mark 10:45), the foundation strives to form children who know they are loved by God and capable of transforming their own communities through stewardship, charity, and hard work. Guided by hope, prayer, and the maternal care of Mary, we seek to create not just a home, but a place where vulnerable children can heal, learn, and discover the God‑given gifts that will allow them to flourish.
