The Ashanti Region

The orphanage is situated in the Behenase area, in the suburb of Abijan Nkwanta nea the city of Kumasi the capital of the Ashanti Region, precisely on the Esereso to Kentanase road off to Lake Bosomtwe in Ghana.

Kumasi is the capital city of the Ashanti Region of Ghana.  The Ashanti Region is the most populated region in Ghana of about 4,780,380 accounting for 19.4% of Ghana's total population.  The population of Kumasi itself is estimated at about 1,517,000 with a growth rate of 2.5% per year. The most common occupation is farming and there is also an ancient gold mine in a section of the region.  The youth resort to trading various farm produce and other items for their livelihood.  Kumasi is one of the most famous trading centers in Ghana and it attracts many different cultures for various reasons.

It is therefore common to find people with various challenges and needs such as physical disabilities, poverty, child beggars, orphans, and mothers with children begging for alms.  The continuous migration of people from various corners of the country into the city of Kumasi has also given rise to a high population rate with lack of shelter and leaves many to sleep under incomplete buildings or sheds. All these challenges give relevance to the site of the orphanage being near the city of Kumasi.

Additionally, the city does have well-established social amenities and basic human necessities, such as good roads, electricity, water systems, medical and educational facilities and a well-balanced social, cultural and ethical system.  All these resources have been considered to assist the life of the orphanage for the children's access to health, education, nutrition and well-being.

 

This orphanage has the objective of serving humanity in humility, based on the Christian principle of the Lord and Master Jesus Christ who came to serve, not to be served, and gave his life as ransom for many.  (Mark 10:45)
